Kids will be Kids at Christmas

With Christmas just around the corner, kids seem to forget to do certain tasks because the excitement of Christmas fills the air - and their minds fill with the thoughts of Christmas morning around the tree! When your child is studying a Christmas catalog instead of their school book, why not sit down with them and talk about the meaning of Christmas? This is much better than getting impatient with them. After all, kids will be kids, and Christmas only comes once a year. Here are some helpful tips to make Christmas more meaningful and fun for the entire family.

Baking with the Kids at Christmas

Let the kids help out in the kitchen during Christmas. They will enjoy helping you bake cookies or make cakes and candy while listening to Christmas songs or singing along with you. It will even be okay for the kids to make a mess. Cleaning up can be part of the family tradition along with the laughter and festive smells. Some cooking ideas for kids include shaping cookie dough like Christmas figures, putting together a gingerbread house, creating bags of goodies to hand out to friends and family at gatherings, and making hot cocoa with marshmallows.

Family Projects for Kids

Letting your kid choose a family project for Christmas will teach the child the importance of time being spent with each other. They can make Christmas ornaments to give for special gifts or to hang on the Christmas tree. Let your child make their own Christmas cards for their grandparents and teachers. Receiving a handmade card from a child will give such a warm feeling, because they know the gift came from their heart.

Remember to involve your kids in all the Christmas preparations and spend as much time with them as possible. Fill your house with warmth and laughter at Christmas by letting your kids be just what they are - kids!
